The Garden Route – how to see our parks

There is so much to see in the region during Gothenburg Green World 2016. With eight different sites spread over five municipalities, we help you plan your visit. Fortunately it’s easy to get from park to park on public transport. Here is a summary of everything you need to know for your visit.

Click on the icon at the top left to bring up a list of parks and sights. You can also deselect any categories you are not interested in.

To help plan your journey we recommend the Västtrafik website, www.vasttrafik.se. This lets you easily find departure times and prices for the stops listed below. It’s also a good idea to download the travel planner (“Reseplaneraren”) app from Västtrafik to your mobile before your visit, so you can easily find your way back as well.

Head to Aspedalens station on the Alingsås commuter train from the Central Station. A short walk along Aspenäsvägen will bring you to the Growing Space at Aluddengläntan. There is a farm shop and restaurant, as well as a spot nearby where you can take a swim. Keep an eye out for signs along the riverside walk and Growing Spaces trail (“Säveåpromenaden” and “Växtrumsslingan”). You can reach all the Growing Spaces from the trail, which is almost four kilometres long. There are also plenty of places along the trail where you can enjoy a picnic. At the far end you come to the Growing Space at Brobackenslänten. You can then walk through Lerum centre with its cafés, restaurants and shops and head to your next destination from Lerum Station.

The closest stop to head for is Råda säteri, but you can also travel to Mölnlyckemotet or Råda portar, which offer more connections if you don’t mind a short walk along Säterivägen. Follow Säteriallén up towards the manor; the restaurant is straight ahead and there is a coffee shop in the nearest wing. The gardens and shop are behind the manor. There are several nature trails in the area, and if you have good walking shoes you can even follow the five-kilometre-long loop around lake Rådasjön to get to Gunnebo House and Gardens.

As you approach, the house rises up from the beautiful surrounding gardens. The house has large grounds, with a shop, tourist information and restaurant in the adjacent buildings. On the way back you can also choose from several nature trails that take you past bathing spots and wilderness areas.

Liseberg is close to the city centre and easily reached from the following stops: Korsvägen, Liseberg or Getebergsäng. 2016 sees the opening of the new Liseberg Gardens project, including new green spaces covering an area of 6,250 square metres on the hillside. This area has a fascinating history and there are many sculptures to see in the park. And of course there are all the rides. If that’s not enough, both the Universeum Science Centre and the Museum of World Culture are close to the park.

From the Central Station you can easily reach the entrance on Slussgatan, or if you are coming from Kungsportsplatsen there is an entrance on Södra vägen. There is also an entrance next to the Trädgårn restaurant. In the centre of the park stands the impressive Palm House, and there is a café with outdoor serving in the park – Rosenkaféet. Beyond the entrance on Södra vägen is Bältespännarparken, where even more activities are planned for the summer months, including a large bamboo art installation. Afterwards you can take a stroll along the main boulevard, Avenyn, which will be transformed into a green avenue in 2016 with pop-up parks leading up to the statue of Poseidon set amid the green Götaplatsen square.
