Cassian Schmidt creates concept garden at Råda Manor
A concept garden measuring around 200 square metres will be created on the large lawn next to Trädgårdsvillan at Råda Manor. The designer behind the concept is Cassian Schmidt, a landscape architect from Germany.
Cassian is a professor in the department of Landscape Architecture at Geisenheim University in Wiesbaden. He is studying a variety of methods for improving and reducing the maintenance requirements of raised beds in public spaces, and developing methods for improving the care of perennials.
Since 1998, Cassian has also been director of Hermannshof botanical garden in Weinheim, Germany. The garden is dedicated to research and public display, and tests a wide variety of plant combinations and methods to find successful, low-maintenance planting schemes. The garden has over 2,500 different perennials, as well as several old specimen trees that are unique in Germany.
The concept garden at Råda Manor will be created with bulbs and perennials that flower over long periods of the year. Cassian has personally visited the site at Råda Manor to get inspiration for the planting scheme. The colour palette will reflect the park as a whole: yellow to match the soft yellow walls of Trädgårdsvillan, with elements of crisp green and white to match the rest of the park and Buildings.
Cassian will be visiting Råda Manor to talk about his design and colour choices at the opening of the concept garden on Garden Day, on 8 May.
