Wild Spring at Gothenburg Botanical Garden

Last autumn we planted more than 200,000 bulbs in Gothenburg Botanical Garden. And now they are starting to flower!

Because the botanical garden is part of Gothenburg Green World this year we planted more bulbs than usual, and orange tulips are now licking around the Mirror Pond like flames. Further up the garden the colours shift to blue, like a river in spring flood.

On the ridge and opposite the greenhouses we want to show the diverse range of bulbs you can plant that are not so highly forced and will happily flower year after year, as well as spreading through division and self-seeding. This is a sustainable way to achieve a beautiful spring garden. The species here include crocuses, grape hyacinths, irises, cyclamen and corydalis.

The Wild Spring exhibition in the greenhouses has a fresh new look and includes an exclusive selection of grape hyacinths from Gothenburg Botanical Garden’s unique collection of bulbs and tubers.

You should not miss the annual spring display in the Bulb Garden or the special collection of bulbs in the Manor Garden that reminds us of our green heritage.

Hanami 24 april

It’s time at last! When the cherry trees come into blossom we celebrate the arrival of spring with a big Hanami picnic, just like in Japan. The day offers martial art demonstrations, Japanese dance, releasing carp, a bonsai exhibition, face painting for the kids, food trucks and many more fun activities.  We have broken our own visitor record every year, so pack a picnic basket and bring along your friends and family to enjoy the wonderful festival mood again this year.
