Each year the city of Mölndal is praised for the innovative floral displays it creates in public spaces. Since 2010 the city’s technical administration has worked with the Museum of Mölndal on flower beds with themes that reflect the current exhibitions at the museum. In 2016 the museum hosted an exhibition on the theme of cuddly toys, which provideed inspiration for all the flower beds. Flower beds were also created in additional sites last year.

Mölndal has taken an active stance on various green issues for many years, and raising awareness of sustainability and ecology is a natural part of the curriculum in the city’s schools. Mölndal did contribute to Gothenburg Green World 2016 with a variety of events, exhibitions and art installations in the urban environment. Because the city is growing, visitors was also able to learn about sustainable urban development and growth from a green perspective.

Land art installations was created at four locations in the town. The installations was officially be unveiled on the weekend of 2–3 July 2016. Artists Stuart Frost and Roberto Conte from the international art association Arte Sella created land art installations in the City Park (Stadsparken) and the old industrial area of Forsåker in Kvarnby, Mölndal. Swedish artists Alexandra Hedberg, Maja Droetto, Karl Chilcott, Greger Ståhlgren and Hannah Streefkerk, also created art works in natural materials along the trail around lake Stensjön. Will Beckers and Rainer Gross, also from Arte Sella, did build further land art installations at Gunnebo House. These works of art formed a green trail around five kilometres long from the centre of Mölndal, through the industrial heritage area of Kvarnby to Gunnebo House. Sites of historical interest was highlighted and a number of green surprises were promised along the trail. Visitors can also walk from the City Park in the opposite direction to Gothenburg Botanical Garden in Änggårdsbergen to see the Gothenburg Green World exhibits there – about 5 kilometres. Mölndal City Park is the hub of this cultural trail and has a café that is open in summer, plus an information point and exercise equipment for hire.
